GRADE 8 PROGRAM REPORTING FRAMEWORK

The BC Ministry of Education has implemented a concept-based, competency-driven curriculum. The major shift is from a knowledge curriculum to a skills, or competencies, curriculum. All courses include knowledge outcomes and competency frameworks and outcomes. Curriculum details can be accessed at this Ministry of Education website:

Along with the new curriculum is a new framework for describing student learning: a proficiency scale. The proficiency scale is aligned with the Ministry's letter grades order. Those details are summarized below.

Course outlines that describe the competencies for each course are provided below. In the Grade 8 Program this year, students will receive formative and summative feedback based on competency frameworks that describe desired student performance in each skill by the end of the school year.

Reports in Term 1 and Term 2 will use proficiency scale language. Reports in the final term will use proficiency scale language and include a final letter grade for the year. Parents who desire communication of a student's progress in letter-grade form can request that at any time by contacting course instructors.
